The flat is located in a building erected in 1970. The property is south-facing and enjoys a very impressive view over the Gulf of Lake Ceresio, the Melide-Bissone dam bridge and Monte San Giorgio.
Before the renovation, the flat had an inefficient layout. The living area had minimal views and the kitchen area was lacking in quality, cramped and poorly lit. The renovation project configured a flat with a large open space, open to the view. The new living area occupies the whole of the south-facing side and integrates the kitchen space. The new layout of the rooms optimizes the relationship of the flat with the outside space and the landscape.
The project involved a complete redefinition of the spaces. The living area consists of the kitchen, the living room and the dining table. The entire living area faces the lake, maximising the view and the relationship with the outside space. The renovation included the installation of a new single 7-metre-long window frame, consisting of two fixed windows and two full-height sliding windows which, once opened, allow for a fluid connection between the living room space and the outside space of the terrace, the view and the landscape.
The flat has been completely renovated. The floors are made of oak parquet with a “smoky” shade.
The wall of the corridor separating the sleeping area from the living area is entirely tiled with full-height tiles. The flush doors are also full-height and covered with the same material, creating an effect of continuity that minimises the presence of the doors and enriches the living area. The stoneware tiles have a slightly irregular surface in warm, soft ochre and taupe tones.
The load-bearing function of one of the demolished walls has been replaced by a HEB 200 metal beam which separates the lowered entrance-circulation space from the living room. The beam, painted white, was transformed into a lighting element.
